Just tested out Prototype 0.04.

Graphics: First thing I noticed is that the visual style instantly took me back to my childhood. I grew up playing Thief: The Metal Age. I love the style of it. Your fire looks great, and the book covers and various small assets are clearly identifiable. The suit of armor in the starting room feels a little out of place compared to the other assets, so it may want a little touch up, but the size of it is certainly intimidating and if that's the sort of thing guards are going to be wearing then I'm eagerly looking forward to doing everything in my power to not let them see me. My last note for this isn't exactly about the graphics themselves, but it's in that territory. The assets looked a bit short at first, but after some exploring I realized that what feels off isn't actually the assets, but that the camera angle feels a little too high when standing. Everything looks fine while crouching, but standing height feels like I'm very very tall.

Audio: For what's there so far, the audio sounds pretty good. My only note here is on the volume of it. I noticed it feels a little louder when I'm running, but when crouched it sounds the same as when I'm walking, just slower.

Traps: The spinning and swinging blade traps are alright. Not too difficult to get past, but not so easy that I could just dash past them without getting hit. I appreciate the audio indication of getting hit because I got through them both on the first try and had to go back and let myself get hit to see if I actually made it through or not, and the audio helped me figure that out. Personally, I'm more of a pressure plate girl, but blade traps are fun classics. In regards to the tile jumping, I failed to get to the second tile several times and have yet to make any progress on it. That might be due to my own poor coordination though. I doubt I'll be able to get past that trap, so if there's anything after it I can't test it.

Mechanics: Movement feels smooth enough to me. It was like slipping into an old coat at the start of Autumn, felt nice and familiar. Jumping feels a little awkward, but didn't give me any trouble until the tile trap mentioned above. I don't know if the following is a feature or a bug, but I was able to climb one of the trees a fair distance by jumping up the side with the mushrooms facing the rope to get onto a low branch, and then carefully jumping up the branches. This was made possible in part by being able to jump repeatedly while moving into the tree. I made it about halfway up the tree I think, but my screenshot is from lower than that.

Thank you for testing! Your review is very much appreciated! I haven't been working on this project for a while now and there's still a ton of things to do and improve on, jumping and climbing being one of those things. I hope to make a city map somewhere in the future just like in Thief, where you could test all your abilities once I get to developing those.

I'll be looking forward to try that too.
